Lemon Flower Photo

Lemon flower photo

This post is about some close up photo shot of lemon flower. Lemon fruit is the common name for (Citrus limon). The reproductive tissue surrounds the seed of the angiosperm lemon tree. The lemon is used for culinary and nonculinary purposes throughout the world. The fruit is used primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, primarily in cooking and baking. Lemon juice is about 5% (approximately 0.03 moles/Liter) citric acid, which gives lemons a tart taste, and a pH of 2 to 3. This makes lemon juice an inexpensive, readily available acid for use in educational science experiments.

Mind Your Input First

After reading how your body works in my previous post, I'm quite sure now you begin to understand why every diet plan advise you to eat 5 to 6 meals per day. The idea is all about to maintain your blood sugar tank, not to overflow, while it keeps us from hungry, which in turns slowing down our metabolism.

Think there is a blood sugar tank bandwidth, with lower limit and higher limit. When you take some food, you going to bring your blood sugar level up to higher level, and due to your physical and metabolism activity, it will gradually going down to your lower limit. And when it goes down to lower limit, you probably begin to feel hungry – time for refueling.

So what will happen if you take excessive calories in your meal? The calories derived from your meal will actually burst off your higher limit of your tank, and the excessive calories will be stored into fat cells.

You might be thinking to starve so your body can turn fat cells into your tank? Unfortunately, our body is really smart and its designed to switch into survival mode – and slowing down your metabolism. So during the survival mode, when you run out of fuel, you will probably losing some fats along with your muscles.

There is lot of diet plan been introduced out there such as Atkins diet, South Beach diet, Mediterranean diet, Abs diet etc. I didn't make specific comparison between all those, and of course they have their own good points and bad points, but I strongly believe the same principle still applies. I personally prefer the Abs Diet, written by Men’s Health editor David Zinczenko – I love the powerfoods part, and this diet is really simple - easy to follow.

You are free to choose which diet you'll going to stick to, but if you come from a place where it’s difficult to get those foods recommended by the plan, then how?? The answer is by knowing how our bodies work especially our metabolism, and then create your own diet plan.

Good Customer Service or Good Product

Which one do you think is more important? A better customer service or a better product? Customer service is one of the business strategy to enhance the level of customer satisfaction on the products or services provided by the company. Actually all the businesses in this world including the customer service, formal or informal. Formal means like there will be a receptionist or operator standby there to pick up your call and ready to assist you. Informal is when you are buying some items, the staff will approach you and serve you. Meanwhile, product can be the items or services you sell or provided to the customers.

There is one restaurant nearby my working place. The place always full with customers. The first time I went there, I was quite annoyed by the shouting and screaming among the waitresses. That's how they communicate with each others. Everything was fine until the "debtor" came and request for the payment. I can tell you, that woman could be the lousiest waitress in the world. Her face and her tone of asking was like, "Hey you owe me XXX bucks, faster give me!". My goodness, she did that to all of the customers. Can you believe that?

"The food is super nice?" I don't think so. "The restaurant location is strategic?" Not really. There are a lot of restaurants nearby there. "The food is cheap?" Not that cheap since inflation everywhere. Then why? Such as lousy customer service still able to attract so many customers? I really don't understand. Could it because of the cultural here? Malaysian DON'T really CARE? That's what I'm thinking. For my own opinion, customer service and product are equally important aspects in a business.

Todays Tips:How to take lecture note

Before the Lecture Begins

  1. Prepare for the lecture so that you will be more likely to predict the organization of the lecture. Check the course outline to see if the lecturer has listed the topic or key ideas in the upcoming lecture. If so, convert this information into questions to be answered in
  2. Sit as near to the front of the room as possible to eliminate distractions. And don't forget to turn off your cell-phone.
  3. Have a proper attitude. Listening well is a matter of paying close attention. Be prepared to be open-minded about what the lecturer may be saying, even though you may disagree with it.

During the Lecture
  1. Keep extra pencils sharpened and ready, or extra lead for mechanical pencils in case a pencil breaks during the lecture.
  2. Write down the title of the lecture, the name of the course and the date.Learn how to do Cornell Notes.
  3. Listen carefully to the introduction (if there is one). By knowing this outline, you will be better prepared to anticipate what notes you will need to take. Decipher this outline by listening for:

    • A topic for each section.
    • Supporting points or examples for the topic.

  4. Copy what's written on the whiteboard and transparencies, especially the outline. To make sure that you get everything, get in the habit of skipping words like "the" and "a" and make use of shorthand and abbreviations. Summarize your notes in your own words, not the instructor's. Remember: your goal is to understand what the professor is saying, not to try to record exactly everything he or she says.
  5. Recognize main ideas by signal words that indicate something important is to follow. See the tip on signals below.
  6. Jot down details or examples that support the main ideas. Take down examples and sketches which the lecturer presents. Indicate examples with "e.g." Give special attention to details not covered in the textbook.
  7. If there is a summary at the end of the lecture, pay close attention to it. You can use it to check the organization of your notes. If your notes seem disorganized, copy down the main points that are covered in the summary. It will help in revising your notes later.
  8. At the end of the lecture, ask questions about points that you did not understand.

After the Lecture

  1. Revise your notes as quickly as possible, preferably immediately after the lecture, since at that time you will still remember a good deal of the lecture. Also it is a good idea to reread your notes within 24 hours of the lecture.
  2. During the first review period after the lecture, coordinate reading and lecture notes.
  3. Review your lecture notes at least once a week. Also, review the lecture notes before the next lecture.

Unfaithful

Story of my life
Searching for the right
But it keeps avoiding me
Sorrow in my soul
Cause it seems that wrong
Really loves my company

He's more than a man
And this is more than love
The reason that the sky is blue
The clouds are rolling in
Because I'm gone again
And to him I just can't be true

And I know that he knows I'm unfaithful
And it kills him inside
To know that I am happy with some other guy

I can see him dying

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
Everytime I walk out at the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be...
a murderer
I feel it in the air
as I'm doing my hair
Preparing for another day
A kiss up on my cheek
He's here reluctantly
as if I'm gonna be out late
I say I won't be long
Just hanging with the girls
A lie I didn't have to tell
Because we both know
Where I'm about to go
And we know it very well

Cause I know that he knows I'm unfaithful
And it kills him inside
To know that I am happy with some other guy

I can see him dying

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
Everytime I walk out at the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be...
a murderer
our love
His trust
I might as well take a gun and put it to his head
Get it over with
I don't wanna do this
Anymore (anymore)

I don't wanna do this anymore
I don't wanna be the reason why
And everytime I walk out at the door
I see him die a little more inside
I don't wanna hurt him anymore
I don't wanna take away his life
I don't wanna be a murderer (a murderer)

No Promise

Hey baby, when we are together,
doing things that we love.
Every time you're near,
I feel like I'm come in heaven, feeling high
I don't want to let go, girl.
I just need you to know, girl.

I don't wanna run away, baby,
you're the one I need tonight,
No promises
Baby, now I need to hold you tight,
I just wanna die in your arms

Selamat Ari Raya

While you guys enjoy your lemang, rendang, and that yummy butter biscuit, spare a thought for Raja Petra - unlawfully detained by so-called Muslims for selfish reasons under the guise of sake of national safety.

Raja Petra's wife wrote:

Umno preparing food for 200,000 people for their Open House for the 1st day of Hari Raya and what would the cost be per head?

How can Muslims of high authority use this unIslamic law, the ISA, on people during the month of Ramadan (the holy month for Muslims), put them under such barbaric conditions and rehabilitate them according to their perverted standards. Where is the compassion, where is the humanity and most important of all, where is the love of mankind that Islam enjoins its followers to observe? Can someone please explain all this to me? I am really very confused. All I can see is hypocrisy and man's inhumanity to man, not compassion, consideration and common decency.

Jakim is coming up with an Islamic rehabilitation program for my husband, it is a joke. Did they even understand what Pet wrote in the first place since it is in English? What he wrote was not anti-Islam.

Todays Tips:How to start the blog

Steps

  1. Find a decent blogging provider that appeals to you. Some may include MuseCrafters.com, Livejournal.com, JournalHome.com, Blogger,ChoseIt, WordPress.com , TheDiary.org, Mindsay.com, Blog.com, Blogagotchi.com, Diaryland.com, Blogdrive.com, weebly.com or Xanga.com. Most of these sites are pre-made with templates and push-button publishing that don't require much technical know-how.
  2. Once you sign up, you'll have a gallery of ready-made templates to choose from. With these, you can pick a color scheme and layout for your blog.
    • Most sites come with a set of predefined layouts and schemes that you can choose from. Select one and personalize it. Then add your name, interests, images, etc.
    • If you want to, get a more unique template, there are some sites up that have many of these that might make it look better. For example, PimpMyProfile.com or Pyzam.com.
  3. Add blogging freebies like buttons, images, blog chalks, imoods, tagboards (for example, myshoutbox.com), guest maps, guestbooks, comment boxes for readers' input, etc.
  4. Explore other blog sites that offer more features for a small fee, such as Typepad.com and ChoseIt.
  5. Decide on whether or not you want your blog to be private or public: do you want any Internet visitor to be able to read your blog, or do you just want your friends and family to be able to read it? Most blog sites offer the ability to password-protect your published posts so only those who you approve of can view what you've written.
  6. After you've set up your blog, write a few posts to test it out, and make any adjustments to the layout or style that you see fit. Like if you just got a new template, you'd check your blog to see if you like it, right? At first, it will seem tough to figure out what to write, but once you get into a routine of daily blogging, you will find it addictive. Write about your day, your thoughts, events, ideas, fears, pleasures, the news, current affairs, art, or anything you are interested in!
  7. Visit other blogs to build a blogging circle. When you leave comments, add your blogging address so they can visit you too. (Note: This will not work if your blog is private)
  8. Publish your blog by sending the URL to your friends or publish the URL on your website. Add the URL to posts you make on other blogs. Done

Dreaming

I find myself staring at glow-in-the-dark stars more often than I should be.

And every time I see an umbrella with that shade of pink, the thought of running after it and tapping the shoulder crosses my mind, and within microseconds, reality bites that train of thought and reminds me.

She's still far away from me.

I miss her....

Vacation Club?Travel Agency?

25th September: Today I learned about another existing business in this world. I believe most of you heard about travel agency. Have you heard about vacation club? Well, I never heard of it so it's quite new for me. One day, I received a sms from an unknown mobile number saying that I won a free ticket/voucher after I filled up the registration form during the past career fair and wanted me to get it from a place which is quite far from my living place. I thought it is a spam sms so I just ignored it. Few days later, I received a phone call from the company asking me whether I'm going to get the free gift from them or not and I agreed to meet them.

Once I reached that company, I knew it will be not that easy to get my so called free gift. A well-dressed girl came out and shake my hand. "Okay, here it comes." I said in my heart. The girl invited me to sit down and started to do the talking. I asked her directly, "what should I do to get my free gift?". She smiled and said that I just need to complete the 45 minutes section. Well, I started to do the counting. Then she began to explain the budget different between travel alone, rely on travel agency and vacation club.

Frankly, I enjoyed the presentation and conversation because I was learning new information. Basically the main difference between these three are the travel budget and flexibility of travel time(vacation club is the best plan overall). And the main point of the presentation is the girl have to do her best to persuade me to join the membership of her company (which is the vacation club).

The funniest part was when she called her manager to come out and explain to me the joining and the membership fee. For me, the most important thing as a manager is the good impression you give to the client, mostly this related to the wearing. That so called manager wore a plain t-shirt with a short pant and it's SHE, around 40 years old. I almost laughed but I was still in control. She explained to me for five minutes and then asked me to decide. I rejected the offer in a good way. "It's not the right time" I answered which means "I don't need it and I just want my free gifts". "Okay, I go get your free gifts" the manager answered. Then, they started another tactics. The girl who presented to me approached me again after the manager went in the room. She did her last attempt to persuade me by brought out the "parents" as bait.

"Last time I was poor and now I'm capable of giving them the opportunity to go travel", "What do you think your parents wish to do" and so on. Oh man, give me a break! She made a fatal error here and I was quite angry. She thought she know my parents better than I does?! I was still in control and rejected her in a good way. And the so called manager took another 30 minutes to get the free gift! In total, I spent approximately 3 precious hours for the free gift!

What a day.....

Patient Is A Virtue

There are some people born with infinite patience while there are many others like me, trying to be patient. To me, trying to wait for things to happen by themselves and unfolding in their own time is harder than watching paint dry on the wall. Extremely excruciating...a downright torture but I'm slowly realizing some things in life.

Cultivating a good temper and gentle disposition involves a lot of prayer and self-discipline. If possible, as human we would like to indulge our own whims and wants. Instead, the best and most influential people in history choose to forget themselves and influenced people greatly because of a few distinguishing features. One of them is the ability to think of others first before themselves..some like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, etc even choose to think of their people, or an entire nation and no longer care about their own freedom or well-being.

If I'd indulge in my own self-pity party and keep on blaming 'bad' people for 'bad' situations, I'll never learn from my mistakes and I shall never move on. In fact, I'll be ineffective and uninspiring..totally lacklustre and devoid of life or hope. I will no longer be a leader and a role model like how I aspire to be.

Therefore, I've decided to move on and learn to live in abundance in spite of annus horribilis. I shall look upon the Saviour and draw strength and joy from this everlasting spring. In fact, each day in the previous week was productive, exciting and colourful...bringing me so much of cheerful and interesting activities that I no longer feel ineffectual and indifferent in a small town. We're making baby steps in transforming the health, minds and hearts of the people in D.C. As I'm firing myself on all cylinders, I'm sure there are more fireworks amidst the obstacles to come. Bring it on, baby!

The pill will get you fit...

The scientist now have developed a pill that makes the body fit without the need for exercise. The drug fools the muscles into thinking they have worked out long and hard, which means they rapidly burn fat and boost fitness.

Basically, the drugs target muscle, boosting its ability to burn fat and allowing it to do more work without tiring. That is the principles on how it works.

Number of trials were halted over concerns about safety and its effectiveness over human body. So, expect the arrival on pharmacy shelves in couple of year later. Someone is making money on this drugs.

Whether it's a great news or bad news, it's up to you to decide..

Blood Sugery In Pregnancies

Might blood-sugar level at the high end of the normal range pose a risk to pregnant woman and their babies? A study followed through childbirth 23,316 women who’d had their blood sugar tested when they were about 28 weeks pregnant. All participants had blood-sugar levels below the threshold for diabetes. About 26% of the women with the highest level gave birth to abnormally large babies, compared with 5% of women with the lowest levels.

Also, the higher a woman’s blood-sugar level, the more likely she was to have a child with high insulin levels and low blood-sugar levels at birth, and greater the chance that she would deliver prematurely or have a Caesarean delivery.

Who may be affected? Pregnant women. In the US, about 5% of the pregnant women develop diabetes for the first during pregnancy.

Caveats: The study did not determine at what point pregnant women with bllod-sugar levels below diabetic should receive treatment. Analysis did not include data on weight gain and the women’s diets.

You can find this study in the May 8 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Annus Horriblis

Queen Elizabeth declared in 1 decade ago that she had an annus horribilis. I think I have no choice but to declare that 2008 is my annus horribilis, the year that everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I don't want to go on further as I'm usually an optimistic non-complainer but I am so upset because one of my most important piece of belonging was stolen from my house while I was working..and my house is in the hospital compound!

The loss of the item is incomparable to the amount of work I have stored in it. IMHO, intellectual property is much more costlier than a depreciated item. The most important lesson that I learnt is that we must always back-up all our data every single week.

Anyhow, this event only reminded me that people (security guards) who are supposed to do their job aren't performing their duties and that some burglars are so cruel because they take the only thing that is important to me as a working doctor who is serving the people.

Therefore, I'm pushed even further into my impending move out of Malaysia as I have lost all hope in the state of affairs in this country. Until I regain my hope and optimism, I think I'll be quite depressed for a while...

Chiling Out Alas

What's more relaxing than staring at crystal-clear flowing stream amidst soothing green tropical trees and pure, fresh air all filled without any pollutants from human?

Chilling out at home!! The last time I could truly chill out at home in KL is like 3 months ago. I miss my bedroom, computer, Internet and little bro so much and now I can finally see all of them J Hanging out at my favourite neighbourhood mall, KLCC and having drinks with my gal-pal while people-watching..these are just some of my typical weekend activity once back in the metropolis.

The good thing about home is the easy accessibility to LRT station, meaning I don’t have to drive everywhere in town. I’m someone who goes all out to avoid traffic jams and it always seem that the Friday jams in town are the worse. I wish that we have better mass transit system in KL but we have yet to see any start to contruction of the new lines. Sigh..

Of course, my short respite from a small town is usually for only 3 to 4 days but at least I’ve satisfied my cravings for city life for a while. So, I’m looking forward to my next break as I work hard and play even harder. Hasta-lavista….

What Is Metabolism

Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns its calories just to keep your body alive—for the functioning of the vital organs, such as the heart, lungs, brain and the rest of the nervous system, liver, kidneys, sex organs, muscles and skin. Your body is burning calories 24-by-7, even while you’re hiding from your boss reading these articles. Basically, an average man burns about 11 calories per pound of body weight every day. If you weighed 150 lbs, then your metabolism rate is around 1650 calories.

Okay, now you know your metabolism is helping you to burn calories. What else is burning your calories other than this?

Way #1 – The Physical activity..
..still need the explanation? The more muscles you involve in your physical activity, the more calories you will burn.

Way #2 – The Thermic Effect of Food..
TEF in shorthand is the increment in energy expenditure above resting metabolic rate due to the cost of metabolizing for storage and use. The magnitude is about 10% of the caloric intake of a given time period, though the effect varies substantially for different food components. Basically, a complex food component such as protein, high fiber food, and low glycemic index carbohydrate has a much larger thermic effect, compared with dietary fat and simple sugar.

You can read more details about Thermic Effect of Food here.
I also recommend you to check more about Glycemic Index here.

Bingo! Now after reading these, I believe you already got the idea – how to incorporate your diet plan, exercise plan into your weight loss program. Exercise and pack some muscle to raise your metabolism, choose good that has larger thermic effect as your natural fat burner, and be physically more active. Thats it.

Awesome Usain Bolt versus Michel Phepls

Fantastic!Fantastic!Fantastic. It is awesome. 2 world records from Usain Bolt and 7 world records from Michel Phelps. It is really fantastic. Both of them are very fast and they are the best in the world now. I can say that, nobody in the world can challange their record after this. It is very hard to achieve the achivement shown by this 2 persons. It must have a lot of effort, good mental, and high desire. They are very strong and brave to conquer the world.

Fraudsters use women to obtain contracts

Nowadays there are many type of people in the world and it is sad to say that more peolpe are bad than good people. Why this happened? It seems to be that, more crime occur are professionally planed by crimer. They planed it well and they do anything to get what they want. It is very sad when the crime also involved by the authority. Some of them are very weak to women. So the fraudsters use women just to get the contract. "These factors show that it is human nature to desire maximum pleasure with minimum pain," .We have to solve this problem in other to get better life.

Real Man Real Strength

I've been subsribing newsletter from Men's Health mag since April 2007, to keep me updated about latest health news, research, workout, etc.

Somewhere on January this year, I received a great article that changed my perspective on weight training. The America's top strength & conditioning coach shares his golden rules to gain explosive strength, and it works for everyone.

Before you step in to any gym in town, I really recommend you to read this article first. This is fundamentals of what does it mean to train hard. Watch the video clip below, or view the articles about strength training principles from Mens Health here.

If you understand these golden rules, I bet you will find bodybuilding exercise which targets on specific muscle group using isolation movement is not really applicable to real world's life.

Think about the legendary Bruce Lee, small, hard and lean physique, but his punch? Could send you to hospital for days. That's the strength I'm talking about. Anyway, we don't have to be like him, but certainly, other than in sports, the strength and functional fitness could benefit us in our real life.

As for me, a non-athlete nor martial arts practitioner, just an average Joe, I'm now building my strength and functional fitness, so that I could be well prepared in the event of emergencies, if any.. What does it feel if there is a critical situation, say about saving one's life, but you don't have that capability to take right action over the situation? Think about it..

Man Health Malaysia August Run

I've been waiting for MensHealth July's issue for almost a week, and finally yesterday I found them in bookstore nearby my office. So I grabbed one..

The most interesting part on this issue, they are going to have 10K run on August 24th at Lake Gardens, maybe to celebrate our Malaysian Independence Day on August 31st. If you're amateur and season runner, join this race..

Now here is another reason for you to join, and you would probably love to hear this.. The race is only open for Malaysian, Singaporean and PR, so expect no African runners will be participating, which mean higher chance of winning. Haha. Actually I hate endurance running, but 10K is not distance enough for me to hate.

I don't expect to win the race, but just hope I can train this month and break my personal record on 10K. I put as my mini goal this Quarter. Chasing numbers begin.

Hopefully my new pair of Brooks will bring me luck..

Journey With Workout Partner begin

Its been couples of months since I started my weight loss program, I'm getting familiar with my swiss-ball and dumbell workout. One day, I was working in my office when my long time no see friend ping me on my MSN just to have some chat.

Carl was asking my opinion on what Levi’s jean to purchase, and then I started browsing for good jeans in the Levi’s website and recommended him a low hip kinda jeans.

“Poor you, this jean do not suit you,” he said. “Why not?” I replied..

“Oh, is that your built just not fit them” and laughing at me. “Duh, sorry I’ve had to tell you this – I’m now 74kg! And that is 14kg lighter than I was when we were at KSM (our previous company)”

After telling him how I changed my diet with regular workout, finally we met on weekend in the morning. Well, seeing is believing.. He is kinda inspired about the changed I've gone through, and by adapting some principle of my workout, he started to revised his own workout plan in order to drop more fat.

Well, actually Carl has been a runner for years and own a commercial gym membership, famous gym in town. But still he has problem losing any more fat. He kinda stuck at 18%, while I at the same time at about 17.5% from my original >30% within 5~6 months.

First Month Of Transformation Program

On July 2008, I bought a couple of running shorts and a pair of running shoes. And that was my first running shoe ever in 29 years. What a shame. Its a pair from New Balance – a new father need a balance brand. Hahaha.

This time I really promised to myself, I'm going to get back in shape and start running every weekend. I did my own research how to do good running from the Internet, invested on lot of Health magazines, and started to cook my own dinner. I make sure not to skip my breakfast, limited my carb intake and at the same time try to get high quality protein in my diet.

The first month I lost about 3kg. I was quite satisfied by the result but another problem begin to happened – its my knee! It seems my knee hates to take the impact from running by an overweight person like me. And also I doubted my running technique.

I was 85++ kg at the moment when I started running. My knee really de-motivated me. I stopped and hope I could recover immediately...

Overcoming The Knee Pain

Things did not run smoothly and not always on my side after all. I've been suffering a serious knee pain for more than a month. Until one day I decided to meet my doctor.

An early 50s man is just an outpatient doctor, but I was lucky because the doctor is a runner too. He has experiences participating in many half marathon competition locally.

And his precious advices really cure my pain – R.I.C.E method, strengthen the Quad muscle using body squat exercise, including high quality of protein into diet for recovery and Fish oil as supplement. And within 2 weeks, I recovered from my knee pain.

I got my motivation again. Thanks Doc!

Obesity VS Global Warming

Don't be surprise, obesity could contribute to global warming too.

I know what you’re thinking: How could obese people add to this? They are not releasing extra heat? lol..

Because thinner people eat less and are more likely to walk than rely on cars, a slimmer population would lower demand for fuel for transportation and for agriculture.

The researchers found that obese people require 18 percent more than someone with a stable BMI, just to sustain normal energy and to maintain daily activities.

Crack My Head

The first time I started this blog was for the intention of learning something about the online marketing. I really want to know how the strategy works. Therefore, I started by created a blog and wrote articles while promoting for the affiliate program I signed up to, such as google adsense, shareresults, advaliant and so on. I putted all the banners at the side of the blog by hoping people click into the advertisements so that I can earn few extra bucks from it.

The blog had been running well for more than four months. So far the affiliate program still going on but the return is not that good. However, that is fine for me because it is part of the learning process. I have to remind myself always that earning extra money through online is not a dream but it will be time consuming. I just have to be patience. Unfortunately, recently I'm running out of ideas of writing any articles for this blog. I tried really hard and do more reading and research but still can't come out with any good articles.

Hmmm...I think I really need to try harder. Rest for a while first.

ISA Detention of Raja Petra Kamaruddin

I condemn the arrest of social activist and blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin under the draconian and infamous ISA. By sanctioning the use of the ISA to avert the process of transformational change in Malaysia, the UMNO-led BN government is confirming that it has lost touch with the will of the people and is no longer capable of leading within the framework of a just and democratic society.

Raja Petra should be released immediately and any allegations leveled against him by the Ministry of Home Affairs must be resolved swiftly by the due process of the law. Raja Petra should be given access to proper legal counsel, and his wife and children should not be denied an opportunity to visit him while he is held captive under this illegal detention.

Raja Petra’s detention and the show cause letters issued today to Sin Chew Daily, The Sun and Suara Keadilan, and its earlier banning of prominent political websites, demonstrate clearly the government’s willingness to subvert the freedom of speech at a time when expression of dissatisfaction with the government’s policies is at an all time high.

In the aftermath of the March 8th elections and the Permatang Pauh by-election the Malaysian people have demonstrated their courage and commitment to building a mature democratic society. The dastardly act of detention without trial will do nothing to abate the current government’s declining credibility, and in fact will likely hasten its eventual collapse.

Keadilan reiterates its vehement opposition to the practice of arbitrary detention without trial. We have consistently called for the immediate release of all ISA detainees, as such practices have no place in a democratic society. The ISA is used to quash dissent and smother those who in exercising their right to free speech voice opinions contrary to the preferred views of the ruling clique.

Invoking the ISA just days before September 16th is clearly an attempt to engineer an atmosphere of fear and instability that would justify the government’s heavy-handed tactics against those aligned with the political opposition.

Todays Tips:How to avoid common resume mistake

Steps

  1. Don't focus on your responsibilities, focus on what you achieved. A resume is not your life story. No one cares. If your life story were so interesting, you'd have a book deal. The only things that should be on your resume are achievements. Anyone can do their job, but only a small percentage of the population can do their job well, wherever they go.

    • The best way to show that you did your job well is from achievements. The best achievement is a promotion because it's an objective way to show that you impressed the people you work for. The next best way to show objective measures is to present quantified achievements. Most people do not think in terms of quantified achievements when they are in the job, but on the resume, that's the only part of the job that matters. No one can see that you were a "good team player" on your resume unless you can say "established a team to solve problem x and increased sales x%" or "joined under-performing team and helped that team beat production delivery dates by three weeks."
    • Steer clear of expressions like "Duties included," "Responsibilities included," or "Responsible for." That's job-description language, and not what employers are looking for.[1] Use action verbs instead, but minimize the use of "I" and articles (the, an, a).[2]Write a self evaluation and for each achievement, ask yourself: "What does this accomplishment say about me, and what I can do for this employer I want to work for?"
  2. Don't make your resume a moral statement; it's a marketing document. The best marketing documents show the product in the very best light, which means using whatever most outrageous tactics possible to make you look good. As long as you are not lying, you will be fine. Here's an example: You join a software company that just launched a product and the product had so many problems that they had to hire someone to handle the calls. You start doing the tech support, and you work tons of overtime because the calls are so backed up. You clean up the phone queue and then you start taking long lunches because there's not a lot to do, and then you start job hunting because the job is boring.

Here's how you summarize this job on your resume: Assumed management responsibility for tech support and decreased call volume 20%. How do you know 20%? Who knows? It was probably more. But you can't quantify exactly, so err on the safe side. But if you just say "Did tech support for a software company" no one knows you did a good job.
  3. Keep it all on one page. The idea of a resume is to get someone to call you. Talk with you on the phone. Offer you an interview. So a resume is like a first date. You only show your best stuff and you don't show it all. Some people dump everything they can think of onto their resume, but a resume is not the only chance you'll have to sell yourself. In fact, the interview is where the hard-core selling takes place. So you only put your very best achievements on the resume. Sure, there will be other questions people will want answers to, but that will make them call you. And that's good, right?

    • For those of you who can't bear to take off the twenty extra lines on your resume because you think the interviewer has to see every single thing about you right away, consider that a hiring manager has to sift through a pile of resumes to figure out which person to interview; each resume gets about a ten-second look. If you think you need a longer resume, give someone one page of your resume and have them look at it for ten seconds. Ask them what they remember; it won't be much. They are not going to remember any more information in ten seconds if you give them two pages to look at; ten seconds is ten seconds.
    • If you have a long job history behind you, beware of age discrimination. Employers might think you're too expensive if you have loads of experience. If you're at the senior level, list about 15 years of job history (no more) and don't provide the date of your college graduation if it was more than about 10 years ago.[3]
  4. Ditch the line about references on request. It's implied. Of course, if someone wants a reference, you will give one. No one presumes that you will not. So when you write that you will provide a reference you seem to not understand how the game is played.

    • Don't list references on your resume at all; if they are requested along with your resume, list them on a separate sheet.[4]
    • Bonus tip: If you have an excellent reference, like a CEO of a company, have the reference call before you even go to the interview. Sets the tone for the employer to think you are amazing.
  5. Tread lightly on the personal interests line. Your personal interests are not there to make you look interesting. They are there to get you an interview. Every line on your resume is there to get you an interview. So only list personal interests that reveal a quality that will help you meet the employer's needs. If you are in sports marketing, then by all means, list that you kayak. If you were an Olympic athlete, put it down because it shows focus and achievement. If you are a mediocre hobbyist, leave it off. Personal interests that don't make you stand out as an achiever do not help you. And personal interests that are weird make you look weird and you don't know if your interviewer likes weird or not, so leave weird off the resume.
  6. Don't be a designer unless you are. If you have more than three fonts on your resume and you're not a designer, you've botched the layout. If design was easy, no one would get paid for it. Recognize your strengths and keep design elements to the bare minimum. And leave Photoshop out of it: Just because you know how to use the shading tools doesn't mean you know how to use them well. Stay away from overused templates (like those in Microsoft Word) because you won't stand out, and it makes you look completely generic.[5]

Vision for Malaysia

Anwar Ibrahim is the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and is currently the de facto leader of Keadilan, the People’s Justice Party. After a distinguished career in public service he was unjustly removed from office and endured six years in solitary confinement on trumped-up charges. In 2004 those charges were dismissed and he resumed his campaign to build a prosperous, democratic and just Malaysia.

Why 'Debu'

The word "debu" here is come from Japanese. Debu means fat, plump, or chubby and its not nice word to say to other than your friends.

Therefore, debu papa means a chubby or an overweighed father. Lol, guess what? I was a "debu papa" until May 2007. And it’s been one year since I started my healthy diet and regular exercise.

Now I maintain my ideal weight around 69kg. Not bad for a 5 ft 8 inch person like me.

Well, I am not debu papa anymore... I started to blog my journey of weight loss and dedicated this blog to those, who are a father out there, and do not know how to do with their weight problem.

Stop making any reason for not having time to workout. I will share my weight loss tips here, we can exchange information related to weight loss and overall fitness and achieve our fitness goals.

Abortion: STill it needs 2 doc signitures

In Malaysia, abortion is allowed if the mother’s health is in jeopardy. However 2 consultant’s signatures are required before the procedure can be carried out legally. In the UK there are moves to abolish the 2 signature rule and medico-legal experts say one signature should be enough

The BBC reports

Women should not need the permission of two doctors to have an abortion, top medical law and ethics specialists say.
The 85 experts have signed a letter which is published in the Times calling for the rules in England, Wales and Scotland to be modernised.
They said the law was outdated and related to an era when “doctors knew best” which was no longer appropriate.

I always thought if it was really necessary in Malaysia these days to stick to the 2 signature rule as well. Perhaps it should be revised?
Abortion indeed is a sensitive topic. It deals with alot of ethical issues including right-of-life, women’s rights, religion etc. Recently I was fascinated to watch Obama and McCain sparring on this issue in their Presidential debates. I thought Obama came across as sounding very rational and indeed very Presidential!
